Many people are unsure when it comes to Direct Marketing. First, let’s look at what direct marketing is. It means, marketing directly to a customer. For example, using letter mailed to someone’s house is a form of direct mail.

You get these type of offers all the time. Why? because they work and are cost effective. The thing is, they have to be designed correctly and have a message to market match. You can have the greatest product in the world and if does not match your market’s wants and needs – the offer and letter will not work.

The truth is, your offer must hit the prospect seven or more times before it gets great results. The return on direct mail is about one percent. So if you mail 100 letters you should get one person who takes action and requests more information. There are a few things you can do to increase your rate to 2% or more.

The key is to develop your offer and make it so good that people want to know more. Make them stand up and say, I need to know about what this person, business etc is telling me. The offer is key. The headline is also important and so is the message to market match.

I will not get into too much on what the headline should say or how to write one or about the offer. I will however say this,The problem with direct mail is, not many people know how to use it correctly. Does direct mail work, yes, beyond a doubt. When you use it correctly, direct mail is well worth your time and money.

How To Get Unlimited Radio Advertising Free and Clear.

One of the expense you’ are going to incur in any

successful business is the cost of advertising.

It’s true, you have to advertise your business. There is not one

business that will grow and flourish without advertisement.

We call this marketing. Marketing is the “life-blood” of

Your business. Regardless of where you are today, or how much

You already advertise, gaining a customer for your

business is going to cost you in one form or another.

Every successful business is built upon, and continues to thrive,

primarily, on awesome marketing. Fortune 500 companies

have millions of dollars added to their budget for marketing.

As a small business, you can not match their marketing

Efforts.

However, , there is a way you can learn to play ball with the BIG GUYS

without actually spending the millions of dollars that they do.

There are many ways to do this The first is through what is known as

“P.I” Advertising.

“P.I.” stands for per inquiry. This is the kind of advertising often

associated with radio and tv broadcasting, where you pay only for

the responses you get in response to your advertising message.

It’s can be very popular and even the best kept secret of the media industry.

This is somewhat related to bartering and is used by many more

Successful business’ than most people realize.

The advantages of PI Advertising are all in favor of the advertiser because with this

kind of an advertising arrangement, you can pay only for the

results the advertising produces.

In oder to get in on this “free” advertising, you should first start with

a loose leaf notebook, and about 100 sheets of filler paper.

Next, either visit your public library and start poring through the Broadcast

Yearbook on radio stations in the U.S., or Standard Rate and Data

Services Directory on Spot Radio. Or use the internet to search them out.

Most of these publications will give you just about all the information

you could ever want about licensed radio and tv stations.

Once you have a copy of either of these publications, select the

state you want to work in.

Your first contact should be to introducing yourself,

and inquiring if they would consider a PI Advertising campaign.

Be ready for a huge NO – you might even have to explain what

you want .Just tell the station manger that you have a product

you feel will sell very well in his market, and would like to test it

Before going ahead with a paid advertising program.

You must quickly point out that your product sells for, say $5,

and that during this test, you would allow him 50% of that for

each response his station pulls for you.

Explain that you handle everything for him: the writing of the

commercials, all accounting and bookkeeping, plus any refunds

or complaints that come in. In other words all he has to do is

schedule your commercials on his log, and give them his “best shot.”

When the responses come in, he counts them, and forwards them

on to you for fulfillment. You make out a check for payment to him,

and everybody is happy. More In My Next Post!

You must set a deadline for your goals….it will help you to take important steps towards the goal. It’s okay if the deadline needs to be changed later….but you need a ‘mark’ to aim for.

A timed deadline is simply setting a limit on yourself as to how long you will take

to achieve the goal. That’s all. I achieve this goal by DATE.

You must set realistic goals, we talked about this a little while back in other posts. You can not move too fast, the goal must be a realistic goal.

What would be realistic to your situation?

This is key – you must find what is realistic for you and what you want in life. For example, if you want to start walking everyday for your heart health, you would not set a goal to Climb Mt. Everest tomorrow. That goal would not be realistic to your situation.

“Achievable” should be something that stretches you beyond your comfort zone but can be achieved. Remember, goals are not set up to break you. Don’t stretch it too far…you need to be able to achieve the ‘small’ goal to get to the HUGE goal.
When setting your marketing goal remember this, work from the END to the front. See it as already finished. What do you want? Is it to get 100 more clients? Set that goal up like this,
I have 100 new clients by june 15th (ETC)

Your Goal Must Be Achievable

It’s true that your goal must be Measurable. You must be able to feel it and see how it is going. Check the goal to see if it is working and if not, what needs to be changed to make it work.

If you start now – regardless of where you are in business, to use this S.M.A.R.T. Goal system, and a few tools like the ones located at: http://lifetrax.com/rep/mysterrio you will see you goals get achieved much faster. This system is the one I use to keep my goals S.M.A.R.T.

You can try the system for free for 30 days and if you want to use it is is under $19.00 a month. Goals have to be Specific, with out a specific  goal you only have a wish on paper or perhaps in your mind. If it is only on your mind, in your mind…it is just a wish and not a goal. Now you might wonder what all this has to do with marketing. The truth is, it DOES have to do with marketing and sales.

You must know where you are going – not drive your business blind. Goals are the key. Here is a goal that is not specific:  I want to make more money telling people about my business. Now, with that said you might talk to someone online at Mcdonald’s or somewhere else why getting your drink and the guy taking your order says: What do you do for work? You answer and as you do – find a quater on the floor. Goal accomplished.

I know that’s silly – but it is true. Here is a better one:

It is my goal to make more money as an over the road truck driver.  Now that might be a specific goal. Next you must make sure your goals do not cross each other out. Here is another example of a  goal.

I want to spend more time with my family at home.

Do you see how those two goals together are not good? You can not be an over the road truckdriver and spend more time with your family at home.

Make the goal as specific as you can and you will achieve it much faster. For example:

I make $40,000 as an over the road truckdriver in the next eight months so I can spend the winter at home with my family and in January we can vacation at Disney Land.

That’s more specific. Be as specific as you can be. These examples can still be better – but you get the point. Be Specific with all goals and that includes your marketing and sales goals!

What is Marketing?  According to Google…if you type in that question, here is what you get:

Definitions of marketing on the Web:

  • selling: the exchange of goods for an agreed sum of money
  • the commercial processes involved in promoting and selling and distributing a product or service; “most companies have a manager in charge of marketing”
  • shopping at a market; “does the weekly marketing at the supermarket”
    wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
  • Marketing is a Canadian business magazine about marketing, advertising and media. The magazine is published bi-weekly by Rogers Media Inc.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing_(magazine)
  • Marketing is an integrated communications-based process through which individuals and communities discover that existing and newly-identified …
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing
  • Buying and selling in a market; The promotion, distribution and selling of a product or service; includes market research and advertising …
    en.wiktionary.org/wiki/marketing
  • market – the world of commercial activity where goods and services are bought and sold; “without competition there would be no market”; “they were driven …
  • market – engage in the commercial promotion, sale, or distribution of; “The company is marketing its new line of beauty products”
  • market – the customers for a particular product or service; “before they publish any book they try to determine the size of the market for it”
  • market – buy household supplies; “We go marketing every Saturday”
  • market – grocery store: a marketplace where groceries are sold; “the grocery store included a meat market”
  • market – deal in a market
  • market – the securities markets in the aggregate; “the market always frustrates the small investor”
  • market – commercialize: make commercial; “Some Amish people have commercialized their way of life”
  • market – marketplace: an area in a town where a public mercantile establishment is set up
    wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

Okay, I know that seems alittle over-kill. However, this is marketing – it goes hand in hand with selling. I know people hate that word selling – but if you think of Selling as simple TELLING others about your servic e, I think it will work better in your mind. See, marketing and sales go hand and hand but…they are not the same thing.  More on this later.

For now, lets say that marketing is a way to get others to understand your product or service better. We will touch on this more in the near future.
